It is neon week on the blog this week and I have a confession, I don't own an awful lot of true neon polishes. But I do love some bright polishes so expect lots of in your face colour clashes this week to celebrate the start of summer!
So today I decided to neon skittles with a twist. I used China Glaze Flying Dragon (Neon), Orly Fresh, Nails Inc Atomic and an unnamed florescent highlighter pink from Stargazers. My camera found it hard to capture how truly bright and eye-watering this manicure was on the nail.
I then decided to use some of the silver foil I got from Born Pretty to review to add a little bling to this manicure.
Born Pretty call this glitter but it is actually very thin foil. Imagine gold leaf but not real gold or silver. Each sheet came in it's own individual screw top pot. In a set you got 6 pots of silver and 6 of the gold foil.
This stuff is incredibly thin and fragile so you have to be very gentle when handling it. Don't do what I did and have your window open when you have your pot open or you will be running around trying to save your foil from the wind.
What is also great about this product is if you made a mistake it is easy to patch it up with a little more topcoat and foil and it becomes almost unnoticable on the nail. Also a small amount of this product goes a long way. I used only about half a sheet of foil from one pot for this manicure so this pack would last a long time. Plus the foil completely disintegrated with my normal polish remover meaning that removal was stress-free (which is always a bonus!).
The wear time on these foil wasn't the longest but I put this down to the fact that I used this directly on my nail tips which get the most abuse from typing etc. And even then the foil was only chipped away the the very tips and was still intact further up the nail. Furthermore I have seen people add little ripped up pieces of this foil randomly scattered across the nail (like the gold-leaf topcoat) and thenI think it wouldn't look so bad if the foil started to chip on the free edge anyway!
I can't wait to use the gold foil, I think it would be a great alternative to the expensive gold leaf top coats that are being produced by the big brand names. If you have some patience I think this is a great thing to wear on a night out so add some extra bling to a manicure.
Remember you can get all your nail art products as Born Pretty- they stock so much! You can get the foils here. If you are planning to order form Born Pretty don't forget you can 10% off your order with the code "BA5X31" which is also on my blog sidebar.
